Kolomenec-1 was intended for working with trailer-type mechanisms of general purpose. It was manufactured by the "Kolomenskiy mashinostroitelniy Zavod" (Kolomna Machine-building Works) locaed in Kolomna, Moscow region; and by the Bryansky "Profintern" plant (currently Bryansky Machine-building Works). Overall, over 500 such tractors were made. Tractor manufacturing on the Kolomna machine-building plant started with production of a copy of "Mogul" tractor of an American "International Harvester" company. However, after testing the first Russian made "Mogul"s, it was decided not to make them any more because their design included many mechanisms that were hard to manufacture and maintain. "Kolomnec-1" was developed to address these concerns and was easy to make and use. It was made in 3 modifications: different engine power, presence of a radiator, more gears.
