GAZ-M-1 design and mechanisms originate from 1933 Ford-V8-40 (8 KB [7]). In 1936 GAZ gave this car the name of foreign minister of the USSR, V.M.Molotov. Model M-1 means Molotov - model N:o 1. GAZ-M1 was the first soviet car with automatic ignition outstripping and adjustable front seats. During the war times, when this car was popular, many people called it "Emka" for letter M in its name. Approximately in 1939-40 the configuration of engine ventilation side holes has been changed. Factory production ended in 1941, but assembling from warehouse parts continued a bit longer. Modifications: GAZ-M-1 taxi, GAZ-M-415 (pickup), GAZ-11-73(6-cylinder), GAZ-21 (3-axes), GAZ-GL-1 (racing model).
